AI Innovations at Allianz: Claims and Fraud Detection
Allianz deploys agentic AI for catastrophe claims and machine learning to combat fraud, achieving faster processing and higher detection rates.

Allianz Group has implemented two major AI systems to transform claims handling and fraud detection across its operations. Project Nemo, launched in Australia in July 2025, uses agentic AI with seven specialized digital agents to automate natural catastrophe claims processing. The system handles food spoilage claims from severe weather events, completing eligibility checks, weather verification, fraud screening, and payout calculations in under five minutes before human review.
Nemo reduced processing time by 80% for eligible claims under $327 and freed claims professionals to focus on complex cases during catastrophe surges. Its modular architecture allows Allianz to adapt the system for travel delays, simple auto claims, and minor property damage. As Maria Janssen, Chief Transformation Officer at Allianz Services, noted, the AI agents make recommendations while ultimate responsibility rests with claims professionals.
To address rising fraud, Allianz Commercial launched Incognito, a supervised machine learning tool that flags suspicious claims for expert investigation. The system delivered £37.7 million in fraud savings during the first half of 2024 in the UK, a 10% increase in detection rates, and a 150% rise in application fraud savings. Traditional methods analyze only about 5% of open injury claims, according to Carpe Data's 2025 report, making tools like Incognito essential for expanding detection coverage.
Allianz detected £77.4 million in fraudulent claims in 2023, up from £70.7 million in 2022, with sophisticated schemes including forged documents and a 25% increase in crash-for-cash motor fraud. Industry-wide, the Association of British Insurers reported over 98, 400 fraud-related claims in 2024, up 12% year-over-year.
